Although last night something was said by Pedro and his wife Felice about the celebration of the death of one year and the birth of another, perhaps I wouldn’t have remembered it were it not because it came up in a conversation of the other members of the group. It would’ve been “just another day.”

I’ve tried the “joys and distastes” of teaching another language (and of teaching in general). Today I tried more of the latter. I didn’t raise the cup to drink the dregs of it, but I did remember the frustration of the students to learn something and the struggle to think how to go about doing it. The brick wall against which they bump their heads is also my wall… but well, I hope we can develop something to teach them to express themselves in English better.

The road that snakes its way down led us to Sololá -- ”City of the Overview,” as it is called, and that rightly so, because from different points of view one can behold the lake and its tranquility with the impressive volcanoes that rise farther, across it, sleeping.

Today was finally the first official day we spent time with the children in the home. I walked in the home and the children seemed so happy to see all of us. Once we got to spend some time with the kids, we all started warming up to each other and we were all so glad to be together, both the kids and our team. I sat down on the floor rug and immediately had kids come and sit with me. Gabriel, such a sweet little guy, came up and wrapped his arms around me and Flory and Jared both came over to sit in my lap while showing me their scrapbooks. That instantly made me so happy to just sit there with those kids and hold them. They all smiled so much and from then on, the day just got better! I felt a connection with those kids and was so happy to spend time with them.
