In July we started an ongoing project to send Bibles to our developing and disadvantaged areas that have need of them. The response has been overwhelming! We received many used Bibles in excellent condition, several cases of brand new Bibles as well monetary donations for the purchase of Bibles and to help cover shipping costs. It is through these generous donations from our brethren and congregations that we have been able to make several shipments.

My wife Beverly along with Church counsel Larry Darden and I visited Zambia from January 26 - February 7th. My main purpose as senior pastor has been first and foremost to see to the spiritual and physical welfare of our more than 300 brethren scattered in a country slightly larger than the state of Texas.

Six months ago United Church of God Fort Wayne member Brian Brumley had the idea to collect spare pocket change to send in as a gift to the Good Works program. Little did he know that it would be multiplied to more than $1,000!

He mentioned the idea to some friends at services and soon there were nicely labeled Mason jars with slotted lids to hand out at church so people could take them home and start dropping in pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters.

Youth Corps Zambia Reaches Out to Serve

Imagine your typical Sabbath morning. I would hazard to guess that the rituals and routines that we have vary widely. For most of us in the United States, though not all, it probably involves breakfast and then a drive to church in our heated or air conditioned cars. The commute varies widely from a few minutes to a few hours, but few would claim the trek to be an arduous one. Unfortunately that is not the case everywhere you go.

In Mufilira, Zambia, the Sabbath was less than restful.

Beginning in the summer of 2009—United Youth Corps began serving the members of the United Church of God in Zambia through by providing Basic English/Remedial classes and fundamental Computer skills classes to interested adults. The two-week program for two qualified young adults and staff enables our members from the more remote areas in that sub-Saharan African country to gain the confidence of using English to assist them in their personal lives, with learning, and in their worship of God.   In addition, we also seek to provide basic computer skills classes for those young and other adults desiring to become familiar with fundamentals of laptop or desktop computer use.

The United Church of God in the Philippines offers financial assistance on a limited basis for the attainment of higher education to qualified and deserving but financially challenged students affiliated with the Church, upon the recommendation of the Church Pastor and upon approval of the Senior Pastor based on approved standards, procedures, and guidelines.

Getting a basic formal education is one of the basic needs of individuals (and even a constitutional right in most countries), more especially for members of the Church of God who are being trained to be kings and priests in the coming Kingdom of God.
