I can't believe we've already been here at Eagle's Nest, working with the kids for one full week. The kids have really stolen our hearts and you can't help but open your arms to them when you see them. I know it is going to be so hard to leave these kids come Thursday morning, but at least we've had the chance to make a difference in their lives and I know they have impacted every single one of our lives!
Today was not a typical class day with the kids, but instead we had a pool party with them during the afternoon. We had pool toys out and made balls out of sponges which were a huge hit! Some kids were busy working on crafts while others were enjoying being in the cool water. The directors family came and joined us as well and we all loved seeing the kids so happy and having so much fun. The older kids especially enjoyed filling buckets with water and then sneaking up on us and getting us wet. And we enjoyed bonding while attempting to push each other in the pool or dump water on those few who still were dry. Both those in swimsuits and those in jeans ended up soaking wet and it created great memories for us as a team!
We spent a couple hours in the early evening before dinner working on painting and varnishing the desks. We have about 8 more desks that need paint and about 65 that need a final coat of varnish. We did buy a power sprayer so that we can just spray the varnish on which saves us lots of time. The time we spending working on the desks provides us with some good quality time to get to know each other as we share stories from our lives and participate in lively discussions.
It's been a good day and a good way to start week two in Guatemala!
