As we mentioned in the video, we took Tuk Tuk’s from Eagle’s Nest Orphanage to a Guatemalan home for lunch.
As we arrived at the Guatemalan home, we were greeted by the family and jumped right in to making corn tortillas. Some of us were more successful than others.
We then visited the home of the grandmother, who has lived in the same home since before her oldest son was born. She still cooks all of her meals on the floor, and sleeps on the floor. She only speaks the native language Kapchikel.
Lunch was served in an outbuilding on the property that had been converted into a small one room restaurant. We shared a meal of tortilla, rice, fried chicken, and a glass of coke. We were informed serving coke indicates a special event.
We decided to take a more traditional ride home…in the back of a pickup truck!
