Today was another typical day at the orphanage, classes with the kids in the morning, and working on the school desks in the afternoon. For lunch today we were able to do something a bit different. There is a former orphanage cook that operates a small restaurant out of her home for visiting groups, and we had the opportunity to eat there instead of at the dining hall. Her home was small, but clean and beautiful. We were able to start by helping form some delicious corn tortillas, and then were given a short tour of her land. Lunch was delicious and included soup, fried chicken and rice. It was great to see the history of one of the houses on the property (her husband of 15 years was born in it, and her mother-in-law is still living there).
This evening we had a Compass Check about resiliency, and not only bouncing back from adversity, but bouncing forward. Personal stories were shared, and it was a wonderful warm and open atmosphere. It has been so great getting to know everyone participating on this project! I would appreciate continued prayers for the success of what we are doing, and our health and would like to say a great big thank you to everyone for your prayers and support!
