Today was awesome for so many reasons!
This morning we were able to sleep in some since it was the kids stayed up late to watch fireworks for the New Year. Some of us also stayed up to see the amazing firework show. We watched as the hills sparkled with the fireworks. It was the best firework show I’ve ever seen.
Instead of starting the day with the kids, we started the day with our work project. We all worked hard to finish the sanding of desks. We also worked on varnishing the wood and painting the legs. It may have just been work, but it was enjoyable with fun music playing and wonderful conversation. It has been great getting to know all the people here better.
The English classes in the afternoon went well. During the first class, Jelly made a special appearance and the kids really enjoyed having him. They were so excited! Jelly came and helped them learn about godly manners by teaching them Please, Thank You, Excuse Me, etc. in English.
The second class with the teenagers went great as well. They also learned about godly manners and even made their own skits to show what they have learned. They are also working hard on a bigger project.
One of the best parts of today was actually getting to know all the awesome people who are part of this United Youth Corps project. Monica, Amy and I spent an hour and half dancing and laughing in the late afternoon. By the end of our little dance party, most of the participants were dancing along. It’s great how dancing can bring people together even if there is a language barrier! We ended the evening with preparations for the following day and s’mores by the fire.
