Day 2 Not What We Planned
The most interesting thing that happened today was definitely working with the 2-5 year old orphans. We had gathered all of the children in a classroom, and in there was Jonathan, Helen, and I. The kids were pretty rambunctious, but I was confident I could calm them down and get some good learning done. I told them to sit down in a circle, and they did initially ,but then all together all the kids started army crawling, squirming, worm-ing around the floor giggling with glee. Me and Jonathan shared a look and we knew then that this class would be much harder than expected.
We did eventually get a few music things done, but the day definitely didn’t go as initially planned. New plans were made and are currently being done. I do have to give a big thanks to Helen, my Guatemalan helper with the major Spanish skills as she has greatly helped me with communication with the children, sometimes my slaughtered Spanish skills do not do the trick.
I did thoroughly enjoy my first day teaching though, and with a lot of plans out the window I can not wait for the rest of the week of teaching.
