We had a great and tiring first day. We met with all of the kids in the morning to talk to them about today’s theme: God Loves Me. We met them in the main portion of the orphanage and were greeted with hugs, hand holding and lots of playing by the kids. We looked through albums of photos with some of them. They were so excited to show us photos of themselves. When we got the group to quiet down, one of our Guatemalan attendees, Werner talked with the kids. As a group we wanted them to know that John 3:16, “for God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son…” applies to everyone. God loves the WHOLE world and God loves them.
Our first class began at 9:00. I was able to stay with the babies this morning and play with them and photograph them. It was so enjoyable to just hold and snuggle them. After the first class I joined Garrett, who is in charge of the music class. He was with the 6-11 year olds. They were learning a song. We then took them outside for tag, basketball and soccer.
When the morning classes were over we enjoyed lunch and changed our clothes to start sanding all of the desks in the school right next to the orphanage. Tim Blick from Australia gave us a tutorial on what we would be achieving today. We sanded a majority of the desks today and some of the boys from the orphanage even helped us through the entire project, even with cleaning up! It was really a joy to see them work hard with us and have a great attitude the whole time.
