We had a pretty successful first day. I spent most of the day with the babies (ages two and under). Victoria, the first little girl I held has an incredibly sad background that made me tear up when I heard it. She does not have ears, is completely blind, and has other physical and mental disabilities that have not yet been diagnosed all due to a failed abortion. I got the privilege to hold, feed, play with her and help her walk with her walker.
I got to spend a lot of time with two little boys who are very new to the orphanage. One of them said that they've only been here for about four to five days. Marcario, the older of the two, has quite the personality. When I first started playing with him all he did was snort at me! I thought he was just doing it to be funny, but then I realized he did it to everyone all the time and no one knew why...
I spent the most time with the Bryan, the younger one, who is probably around 5 months. He has the cutest little laugh I've ever heard! He loved to bounce and be tossed up in the air.
Most of the afternoon was spent sanding desks for the Christian school at the orphanage that has almost 200 kids. Some of the orphan boys came in to see what we were doing and started sanding with us! We sanded for a few hours and they had no problem keeping up! They are such hard workers!
