Oftentimes in my life I pretend as if I were in a movie. I observe the setting, envision the audience, what mood should be portrayed, what music to have in the background.. Today this happened as we were driving to the orphanage. There were twelve of us in a yellow school bus rolling through Guatemala, scenes of outdoor markets and farm landscapes rolled by, the sight and sound of locales greeting us came in, and as the bus driver blared typical Latin dance music it felt as if we were in a intro scene to a south American adventure movie. This surreal moment was just the thing I needed to get pumped up about the next few weeks of service.I had met the supervisors of the orphanage before during a visit last feast to the orphanage, but I had forgot how welcoming and just cool they were. Feliz you can tell works harder than most people in this world and loves her job to keep providing for these children. And her husband, Pedro, has the most love and faith in his work and just a really awesome guy to talk to. He is a guy I could envision hanging out with on a regular basis at home. I am so glad they are the couple we are working with this week. After touring the facility again and getting to know some of the staff we were ready to organize our activities. I had most of my plans for teaching the kids some music already ready, but as we draw closer, the idea of taking the reigns of a 42 Guatemalan kid choir has me more and more excited and nervous. I don’t have a lot of experience teaching children, and the ones I have in music lesson I treat like adults one on one. But I know this week I must release some exciting, enthusiastic kid friendly teaching to get these kids to have a great time with music. This frightens me, but I also can not wait to get started tomorrow.
