We loaded the bus bright and early morning and took off on our three hour drive to our next adventure in Solola, Guatemala at the Eagle’s Nest Orphanage. The ride was bumpy and windy going through towns, shops, and homes and passing by many Guatemalans who were sitting by the side of the road just waving at buses that drove by. The group sang some recognizable songs that came from our bus driver, Francis’s CD. With only a couple of stops on the way we reached the town we will be staying in the next two weeks. Four of the Guatemalan brethren met up with us: Werner, Helen, Evelyn and Andrea.

We had an authentic lunch of black beans, guacamole, steak and handmade tortillas and talked to some of
the other visitors who are family and friends to the owners, Felis and Pedro. We had a tour of the grounds after lunch and Felis and Pedro showed us where all of the various age groups live. The older girls and boys live separately, while the babies all live together. The houses have “mamas” that cook, clean, and take care of the children even in the middle of the night if they get scared, they always have someone there. We met some of the babies and one of the kids with special needs, Victoria (pictured below with Felis). She instantly warmed out hearts with her sweet giggles and big smile.

Pedro explained to us how their school works. They are ranked second next to the university. They have children who have doctors as parents to children who are their staff’s kids attending their school. We will be
refurbishing their school desks by sanding and painting them to get them ready for the new school year. The owners, Pedro and Felis are so passionate about the orphanage and you can see it by the way they talk about the kids and their plans for the future. The orphanage also reaches out to the community in many ways too. There are many great things going on here and it’s inspiring to see how God has blessed them. I’m really looking forward to meeting more of the kids tomorrow for our first day of activities. I’ve already met a handful and the language barrier means nothing to them. They just adore to be played with and don’t care what language you speak. I’m praying that I can show these kids love and love them how God, our Father, loves us.
