Bags are packed and piled into the back of a big yellow school bus and the 13 of us climb in and get comfortable for the 3 hour ride from the Robledo's home to Eagles Nest Orphanage. As we make the trek to Solola, the bus is full of chatter as we are finalizing activity planning, sharing stories, singing, laughing, taking photos of the countryside, and Tim is teaching us Australian words.
As we arrive at the orphanage we are happily greeted by the directors and their family, have lunch, and enjoy a tour of the facilities. Eagles Nest Orphanage is located on the top of a hill overlooking Lake Atitlan and provides a beautiful view of the surrounding area. We were able to look at the school where we will be teaching many of our classes as well as refinishing the desks, and we were able to see the home the orphans live in and meet a few of the kids. The rest of the kids we will meet tomorrow. We ended the day by doing activities to get to know the team better, organizing supplies, and getting ready to have a full day of activities starting tomorrow.
