Chuck Smith, the project manager, is the pastor for the Ft. Lauderdale congregation, as well as for the seven congregations throughout the Caribbean. He has been baptized for 35 years.
Chuck was born in a small farming town in Indiana, but was raised on a farm in Tennessee. He owned his own construction business for 20 years there before selling it to work full-time in the ministry.
Chuck has worked in UCG youth camps in the United States for the past decade, and has more recently had the energizing experience of working at youth camps in Jamaica. He has had the opportunity to work with young people from one end of the Caribbean to the other.
Although the youth participating in this year’s Camp Jamaica will be coming from the diverse backgrounds of several Caribbean islands, the goals of Camp Jamaica will be the same as those of all UCG Camps. The first and most important goal is learning more about God’s way of life, and why “it works.” Other goals include training the youth to be better prepared for success in education and careers, developing a good work ethic, and last but not least, having fun, and building lasting friendships that will bond them closer together, hopefully providing a support system of other Godly youth all across the Caribbean.
The 2015 Camp Jamaica will have the largest number of participants in its history. With a high ratio of staff to campers, the campers can have one-on-one mentoring, and can build a lasting relationship with their counselors. This will give them a resource they can feel comfortable calling upon for sound spiritual advice in the future.
This year’s Camp Jamaica is poised to be the “best camp ever!”
